Konoba Škojera Trpanj is a family business with a long tradition and is one of the most recognizable in Croatian tourism. Years of dedicated work and improvements in our offerings, based on the needs of thousands of guests who return year after year, are the best confirmation that you will truly receive what we promise.
The tavern was founded by Goran's father, Ante. With the skill of a successful tradesman and a sense of improvement, Ante established the tavern in his old house, adding a new wing and giving it a unique look. Alavia, as the people of Trpanj would say, 'the way a tavern should be.'
Goran, with the manner of a gracious host, will recommend the daily specialties and other dishes on offer. Trust me, you'll eat better here than you do at home.
Ante Jović, Goran's father, wrote his thesis Geographical Overview of Trpanj in 1976, in which he elaborates on the reefs in the Port of Trpanj, among other things.
A significant work, only a few people from Trpanj can list all the islets in the harbor:
"Mali Škojić, Ždrilo, Plitački Škoj, Veliki Škoj, and Sestrice form the northern breakwater of Trpanj Harbor. Today, Sestrice is no longer visible because the walls of the breakwater have been built on it, stretching from Veliki Škoj to the lighthouse. It was a brilliant move by designer Engineer Wilfan to leave the sea passage between Ždrilo and the mainland, thus allowing the passage of small boats to the harbor and the circulation of tides through two channels. All these natural elements integrated into the construction of Trpanj Harbor give it exceptional aesthetic value."
At the end of his work, Ante Jović writes:
"The new society and its aspirations create a new man in Trpanj who will certainly build a new, more beautiful, and larger Trpanj in every respect."
Ante's son Goran is certainly one of them!
That's where the name Konoba Škojera comes from!
So, where did the idea for the konoba come from? Ante was a gourmet and a good fisherman, one of the best, as a Trpanj local once told me. And Trpanj locals are reserved with their words, especially when giving praise. The rest fell into place easily!
